In the year 2000, instinct and a deep connection to nature led us to a remarkable place of hills and valleys nestled within the Klein Karoo, between the Riversonderend Mountains and the Langeberg. It was here, surrounded by the beauty of the Karoo landscape and the endless expanse of its starlit skies, that SKYROO was born.
Located within the Cape Winelands and only a 2.5-hour drive from the city centre, SKYROO originally began as a family retreat — a place to escape, reconnect, and appreciate the tranquillity of its unique surroundings. This extraordinary region is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich heritage, and world-class wines, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the many exceptional attractions and offerings of the area.
Today, SKYROO continues to embody the spirit of this remarkable environment — a place where nature, passion, and a timeless appreciation for beauty come together.
In 2014, Arabian horses were introduced to SKYROO, marking the beginning of a journey driven by passion, dedication, and a deep appreciation for one of the world’s most treasured breeds. The shared passion of father and son led to the acquisition of several beautiful locally bred Arabians, many of which carried distinguished Spanish-Egyptian bloodlines.
Since the introduction of the Arabian horse, this passion has inspired a continuous pursuit of knowledge and excellence, taking the team around the world to connect with respected breeders, trainers, and industry professionals. Through these experiences, Dean Rees-Gibbs had the opportunity to work at several well-established Arabian stud farms throughout Europe and the Middle East, gaining invaluable insight into the breed and developing a deeper understanding of the qualities that define the modern Arabian show horse.
Around 2020, Skyroo Arabian Centre further advanced the breeding programme by introducing exceptional bloodlines from some of the most influential horses in the industry, carefully selected from internationally renowned breeders around the world.
Dean Rees-Gibbs has continued to develop and enhance the SKYROO breeding programme while creating a distinguished facility supported by a passionate and committed team. Together, they share a clear purpose: to uphold the highest standards of breeding, care, and horsemanship while producing Arabian horses of exceptional quality and character.
